Surf Spots
The Cove
The closest spot to our surf house, just 5 minutes walking. Usually a mellow long left wave that breaks behind the cliff towards the middle of the beach. A right hander also breaks from the middle of the beach. A great spot for those early morning longboard/midlength sessions followed by a good breakfast by the sea.

Gas Station
Right next to the cove lies the Gas Station, a punchy little reef break, it can offer some fun lefts and shorter rights as well. The paddle in and out can be made quite easily via a small beach right by the bridge. On low tide the right hand section of the reef can get quite shallow, but it’s a great spot for those looking to build up their confidence and experience on a reef break.

Animals
Animals is the surf peak located in front of the Ahangama beach bars Thileni’s, French Bistro, it can be quick and punchy, breaking over the reef. The right hander is a bit shorter and finishes off pretty shallow, but when the left is running it’s really fun and offers up some fun rides. A great spot for when the bigger swells arrive too, although paddling out proves a little harder.

Sion (Devil's Rock)
Sion also known as Devil’s Rock is one of the most consistent surf spots in the area. It often gets pretty crowded but moving to one of the outer peaks can be an option in that case to stretch the lineup. During low tide it can get quite shallow – so beware of cutting your feet on the rocks/reef and better not nose dive. This spot works usually best in the early morning during the surf season.

Marshmallow
This rolling reef break is ideal for anyone from a beginner level upwards and is a favourite for those riding longboards, mid lengths or fishes. A super long wall, it’s perfect for gaining confidence and learning turns.
When the swell picks up though, it’s great for all levels of surfer and can handle some serious size, so don’t let it catch you off guard with how playful it looks from the beach when it gets bigger!

Sticks
Sticks has multiple A-frame peaks breaking over flat reef. It’s an ideal place to gain your first reef break experience once you’re comfortable with surfing down the line. On bigger days, when the waves exceed head-high, they pack some power, offering a fun challenge for advanced surfers too.
The new bar/restaurant STICKS Surf Club is also worth a visit for a drink before or after the surf.

The Rock (Kabalana)
The Rock is the most powerful and high-quality wave in southern Sri Lanka, reserved mostly for advanced surfers. The wave begins with a steep take-off, where you can choose between two options—committing to the longer left with a good chance of getting barrelled or opting for the shorter but equally powerful right hander.
The beach is also a nice place to hang out at, with many people playing football, volleyball and enjoying a good beach day.
